50 Years CIF

CIF International will celebrate its 50th anniversary on August 27-29th 2010 in Hamburg, Germany, where CIF was founded in 1960.

On this occasion CIF Germany invites all members and interested professionals for a symposium with the title:

50 Years of Intercultural Social Work

You will meet social workers from all over the world to share professional competences of intercultural social work.
The registration period is over now. Meanwhile about 140 participants have registrated.

In case one or the other has not yet paid her or his fee: please do so immediately.

The Symposium will be in Hamburg over the weekend from Friday 27 to Sunday 29, August 2010 with the opportunity to extend a 3 - day post tour trip to Berlin till Wednesday September 1. This post tour has been booked now, it will start on Sunday afternoon and will end in Hamburg around noon on September 1, 2010. Here are the details (updatet in June) about the Post Tour to Berlin.

We have changed the hotel. It is not anymore the Commundo but Motel One Hamburg-Alster. This is a brand new hotel in the center of Hamburg. Terms and conditions for the Symposium participants are the same as for the Commundo, if booked within the deadline. Late bookings please contact Maria Hierlinger.

How to reach the hotel can be found on the above link. There is also a little map that shows the way from the central station to the hotel. People coming by car should use the description sent out by Maria. Those coming by train or plane might use this short information (updated in June).

Purpose and Contents of the Symposium:

  • appraisal of the founding members, the origin and the development of the association and its citizenship oriented engagement
  • reflection and analysis of the last 50 years of international social work by means of
    • research report by Prof. Dr. Elke Kruse (Alice Salomon Highschool Berlin) about effect and sustainability of international exchange programs (CIF/CIP programs)
    • Foundations and Developments of the individual CIF Country Representations over the Years
  • To gain Knowledge of Social Work in Hamburg by means of:
    • a tour round the city with a highlight on social aspects of urban development, history of social work in Hamburg (e.g. Rauhes Haus)
    • visiting the location, where CIF International was founded (Stintfang) and the places, where the founder (Henry Ollendorff) was living
    • a boat tour round the harbour of Hamburg with a focus on migration problems in Germany
  • Renunion and Exchange of Experiences between abt. 100 young and older CIF Members from presumably 30 Countries
  • View of the Future: Visions for CIF International presented by the President of CIF International, Mimmo Merola (Italy).

Costs: Euro 280,00 per Person Friday to Sunday, day tickets 50 Euro per day from Friday to Sunday without accommodation.

Prior to the Symposium are the meetings from the EC and the BD.

  • End of the Symposium August 29, 2010 12.00 a.m.
  • Posttour: Berlin from August 29 from 2 p. m. - Sep 1, 2010 around noon incl. travel Hamburg to Berlin and back by bus, hotel with double rooms incl. breakfast and guided citytour. Total Cost Euro 320.
